First Time? Start Here — Format, Dose and What to Expect

· 7 min read

The goal of a first session is not to feel a lot. It is to find out how your body handles this at all, at a dose small enough that being wrong costs you nothing. Everything below is built around that, and the single most important instruction on the page is the one about waiting.

How much, and how long to wait

  1. Inhaled: one short draw. Two seconds. Then wait fifteen minutes before deciding anything. Effects arrive in minutes but keep building for about a quarter of an hour, and almost every uncomfortable experience is a second dose taken inside that window.
  2. Eaten: 2.5mg, which is usually half a gummy. Then wait two full hours. Not one. Onset can take that long, and doubling up at forty minutes means both doses arrive together at ninety.
  3. Choose a balanced hybrid if you are unsure. It is the hardest thing on a menu to get badly wrong.
  4. Eat something first. It softens the curve, particularly with edibles.
  5. Somewhere familiar, someone you trust, nothing to be anywhere for. Setting does more work than strain choice.

What it actually feels like

  • Usually: relaxed, a bit talkative or a bit quiet, more interested in music and food, slightly altered sense of time.
  • Commonly: dry mouth, red eyes, a raised heart rate for a while. All normal, none of it a warning sign.
  • Sometimes: self-conscious or anxious, especially at too high a dose or somewhere unfamiliar. It passes.
  • Duration: one to three hours inhaled; four to eight eaten, sometimes longer. Plan the evening, not the hour.

Two absolutes: do not drive, and the impairment outlasts the part that feels obvious. And be careful mixing with alcohol the first few times — the combination is considerably stronger than either alone.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I take the first time?
One short two-second draw if you are inhaling, then wait fifteen minutes. If you are eating, 2.5mg — usually half a gummy — then wait two full hours. The aim is to learn how your body responds, not to feel a lot.
What is the best format for a beginner?
A cartridge or disposable. One short draw is a small repeatable dose you can stop at any point, which is far more control than an edible or a pre-roll gives you. Concentrates are the worst place to start.
How long before I feel anything?
Seconds to minutes when inhaled, still building for about fifteen minutes. Thirty minutes to two hours when eaten, peaking at two to four. The waiting is the whole discipline.
What does it actually feel like?
Usually relaxed and a little altered in your sense of time, often more interested in music and food. Dry mouth, red eyes and a raised heart rate are all normal. Feeling anxious or self-conscious happens too, usually at too high a dose, and it passes.
What do I do if I take too much?
Somewhere quiet, water, something to eat, and company if you can. It is unpleasant rather than dangerous — it peaks and fades like any dose. That is exactly why the starting amount is worth respecting.
Can I drink alcohol with it?
Not the first few times. The combination is considerably stronger than either on its own, and it is a common route to an uncomfortable evening for someone still learning their own limit.
